Principles and Mission Statement

History Of IMPACT MARTIAL ARTS

Our system began as a traditional Tracy Kenpo Karate system. Over years of development, some katas were changed, taken out and some were added from other systems such as Tae Kwon Do and Hung Gar kung fu. The influence of Tae kwon Do improved the kicking skills and athleticism of our students tremendously.

In time, we changed from the point sparring concepts of the sport based karate systems to American Kickboxing. This was a more self defense based approach. This further evolved into a heavy influence from Muay Thai Kickboxing, which is considered by many to be the most effective striking art in the world today.

Much of our hands on self defense evolved from the traditional Kenpo moves, which still remain in parts of our system today, to an influence from Jiu Jitsu and Krav Maga. Both arts have an enormous value on street smart martial arts.

Modern Approach To Self-Defense

Our Master Instructor, Renshi Jeff Groesbeck, has over 25 years experience in the martial arts as a student, meaning he has continued to grow and develop all those years. He continues to travel to train with some of the top people in the martial arts to ensure he is bringing some of the best information available in the world into our dojo in Manilus.

Our current system still has the traditional Martial Arts forms. Our belief is the structure and detail learned from a kata is very valuable to the development of every other part of the martial arts. Our striking defense is based on the Muay Thai system and our grab defenses, meaning someone is grabbing you, is heavily influenced by Krav Maga. Eventually students are eligible to learn the Hyper curriculum. This is a fast paced exciting class that blends martial arts and gymnastic movements together. Arnis / Escrima, the art of Filipino stick fighting, is taught to our most advanced students.
